Sub Ensemble Round up

Thanks to all who came down to The Rainbow on Wednesday, we had a brilliant time. There was a great atmosphere, I really enjoyed the vibe and came away smiling! We recorded the gig so hopefully that will be up soon on the Birmingham Jazz Website. In the mean time, here’s a nice review by Peter Bacon: http://thejazzbreakfast.wordpress.com/2009/08/27/gig-review-the-sub-ensemble/ and some great pictures by Russ Escritt which I’ve added to the Gallery section of this website, but you can also see on Russ’s Website: www.russpix.co.uk. I really liked the change of layout in the back room of The Rainbow too, I thought it worked really nicely even if they’ve only done it to appease their neighbours. Keep supporting this under-threat venue.

Special thanks to Aaron Diaz who stepped in last minute and did a marvelous job on trumpet. I love having two trumpets, particularly when the players are as good and as different as Aaron and Adders. Pure Mariachi style! Also, a special mention to Alan Gardiner (known to us only as Begs!) who’s moving to Brighton to pursue a new career. Good luck matey, it’s been a pleasure. Hopefully Begs will be back to play with us asap.

4Hero presents Extensions

A couple of things to liven up the end of the Summer. Firstly, The Sub Ensemble will be playing at The Rainbow in Digbeth next week on Wednesday 26th August at 9pm. It’s only £4 to get in, so come down and support us as well as the under-threat Rainbow. Full details here: http://www.birminghamjazz.co.uk/?p=552

Secondly, we’ve recently been working on a version of the 4Hero tune ‘Humans’ from their seminal album Two Pages. We’re very pleased to announce that this will be available on the album ‘4Hero presents Extensions’ from the end of October. Even better than that, you can head over to this website: http://4hero.bandcamp.com/ and check out samples of all the tunes from the album. Woo hoo!
